Exchanging
This is the reason most people buy a timeshare; the ability to
trade it for a comparable week somewhere else is the world.
Let's say you own week six in Park City, Utah. Your personal
timeshare is a 3 bedroom 3 1/2 bath townhouse that sleeps 10 in
beds. Your resort is a Gold Crown resort in the RCI
system.
Your family decides that nine cold winters in Utah are their
limit, and next year they want you to take them The Florida
Keys. They want a suntan instead of windburn. If you are
a member of one of the timeshare trading organizations, you can
trade your week for thousands of units around the world.
Sometimes getting your ideal resort has to be planned. But the
flexibility is amazing. Your Gold Crown unit in Utah should
trade for something very nice in The Keys, the Caribbean, Hawaii,
and plenty of other warm climates. The following year you are
free to go back to Utah and start another nine year run in the
snow.
Exchanges are done by hand!
Both RCI and Interval International have spent
millions of dollars on computer systems. Yet to this day they
continue to match exchange requests by hand. Why?
Because they want to try and make sure that the owner of a Gold
Crown week is able to trade for another Gold Crown week, and this is
one way to ensure that happens. Please remember this when
buying weeks to exchange.
